This is a real, 1 month old Chihuahua puppy skull. Normally at this age the skull is more or less fully formed, but in this instance the fontanelle hasn't come even close to closing. As the skull has been cleaned with oxidation, the fontanelle is enclosed by a thin membrane.
This puppy unfortunately failed to thrive.
