Male Von Der Decken Hornbill Skull #2
Scientific Name: Tockus deckeni
Order: Bucerotiformes
Family: Bucerotidae
This particular skull is a little interesting as it has a "horn" at the tip of the beak. Even though these are HORNbills, this particular species normally has a completely flat and smooth beak. I've never seen one with this type of deformity(?) before!
Like most hornbill species, they are dimorphic and only the males have the larger, brightly coloured bills, as opposed to the plain black females.
This skull is imported from the Netherlands, and is professionally cleaned, degreased and whitened. It is complete with all bones including quadrates and pterigoids.
